Samson's new Vortex climbing line is a 1/2-inch diameter line with high strength and low stretch. The key is that it is a double-braid 24 strand, normally only found in thinner diameter lines. This makes it much lighter than traditional 16 strand 1/2" lines.
Some of us old-schoolers who grew up on 1/2" 16 strand lines find gripping modern skinny lines hard on our banged-up old hands... If you like the feel of grabbing a full 1/2" line but don't want to have to deal with unnecessary bounce or weight this is the rope for you. It is also proving popular for SRT, giving a bit more of reassuring handful when you're used to grabbing 2 legs of thinner line in DdRT.
